There were many poets and poems during the 1700s. Some of the most famous poets and their poems were:

Francis Scott Key - Poet who wrote The Defence of Fort McHenry (Star Spangled Banner, America's National Anthem) - When Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner, he was being held as a prisoner during the American Revolution.

Clement Moore - A Visit from Saint Nicholas (the Night Before Christmas, Twas the Night Before Christmas) - A Visit from Saint Nicholas is a poem that many children have heard of and was written by Clement Moore as a Christmas gift for his children.

Edward Taylor - Upon a Spider Catching a Fly - Edward Taylor was an England puritan whose writing was different from other puritans because he wrote about God being loving and forgiving.

William Blake - A Cradle Song - This poem is about love and innocence.
