American Poetry in the 1900s

The Great Depression was happening in the US during this time, so many poets wrote about sadness and tragedy. Some examples of poets who wrote about the Great Depression and sadness were:

Donald Justice - Pantoum of the Great Depression - This poem was written by Donald Justice during the Great Depression. It is about the tragedies that happened in Florida, since he lived there. 

Paul Laurence Dunbar - A Death Song - Paul Laurence Dunbar was an African American whose grammar and writing style was different from other poets. He is still remember today because he was the first African American to receive a national high ranking in poetry.

Jazz was also popular in the 1900s so poets wrote about jazz as well.
